Maybe you missed the story that Honda solved the mystery of why its Pilots were burning up on people, shortly after their first oil changes, even dealer-done oil changes:
The problem was, the Chinese-supplied original oil filters, supposedly made to Honda standards and bearing the Honda logo and installed by Honda at the factory. Seems someone substituted a cheaper rubber compound than specified on the gaskets, making them prone to stick to the block when the filter was changed.
That stuck-on gasket, missed by many oil changers, was sitting there, unsupported, when the new filter was screwed down against it. These gaskets need the square groove in the filter to support their outer diameter and keep them from going oval and letting the engine's lubrication gush out. So without the filter can around them, that's just what happened, and oil hit the exhaust and started burning.
Don't get my motivations wrong, it's a great nation, capable of wonderful things. But it's caveat emptor, in my opinion, for some of their products, U.S. specs or not.
The West has treated that land shamefully in the past: The British, going to war against it to enforce their ability to export opium to it, for example.
Roaming a library and opening by chance a volume of the proceedings of the League of Nations, I once read an impassioned plea by a Chinese diplomat in the 1920s against the shipping in of opium to his country by the west. In particular, I remember the Germans as among those then most guilty. His plea seemed to be falling on deaf ears.
