I'm not sure if I follow how a bad transmission translates into RIP or "it's time has come." Driving costs money no matter how you do it whether it's putting a new trans in (one big payment)or making a payment every month. You can dump your car for next to nothing but you still have to cough up the money to replace it and $3250 would just buy you another car with different troubles and maybe even the same trouble down the road. You could make a payment, but $300 a month is $3600 this year, next year, the year after that etc. And please don't even start with "the car is only worth X." If you put can $3250 into the car and get another two or three years out of it it's actually the best deal of anything I've outlined above. If you shop around, maybe find a good used trans, you could probably fix it for half that. Your car is along ways from RIP.
