If he can't afford to fix it than he should at the very least sell it to someone who will. Classic 900's are becoming increasingly rare and are well on their way to becoming classics. Unless it's rusted beyond repair there's absolutely no excuse for parting one out--it's like shooting your dog because you can't afford the vet bill. I've been watching cars make the transition from cheap old used heap to classic status since the '60s and there's a pattern to it. The classic Saabs are showing all the signs. Anyone selling one for market value today will regret it very much five years from now. They won't exactly be like a '55 T'bird, but prices will be a lot higher than they are today and they won't be coming down again. If you claim to care about these cars at all, parting out is not an option.
