The rest of the ancillary systems have to grow up with the increased perfomance potential of the modern engine. Cooling systems improved tremendously in the last 30 years. This used to be a performance limiting factor because most people would see the gauge creeping up and slow down or turn off the ac for awhile. Unfortunately, the improved cooling system does not extend down to the crankcase where the oil lives.
I believe many manufacturers ignore the problem because most of these engines are capable of prodigious mileages with even the slightest maintenance. They can last until the whole rest of the car starts disassembling itself and falling apart. What good is an engine capable of 300k+ miles if the rest of the average car doesn't last as long? The preceding is not just my opinion. However, this is how your average car manufacturer thinks. They have a valid point. Besides, they want you back in the dealership for another new car.
If drivers were aware of their oil temp through use of a gauge, I think we would all be surprised how hot the oil gets and would perhaps alter our driving behavior or add a cooler.
As for those killer bees, they're supposed to be here in SoCal. I hike and climb all over the area and haven't seen one yet. Then again, how would I know a killer bee if I saw one? Do they have badges?
