Might be that it's your original motor and that it was leaking oil all along, but with all that dirt coating things it never made it to the ground.
The oily sand and dust coating an old motor and tranny works kind of like a sponge. As oil seeps out and onto the dirt, it's held there and migrates gradually downward. But before it can ever drip, more dust and dirt arrive kicked up by road travel, and bond with the fresh oil so it's held on the block.
It seems absurd not to clean a filthy old motor but lots of times once it's clean you wind up with a chronic oil dripper. The cure is fix all the leaks, front and rear main seals, valve cover gasket, maybe head gasket, clutch shaft seal, clutch cover o-ring, oil pump o-ring, axle seals, diff. cover gasket. Etc.
Or maybe move to Hazard County and drive like Bo and Luke till there's plenty of fresh dirt on there to stop the drips.
