Straight pipe not fitting in muffler: clamp crease...

I had replaced the muffler last month, only to have to remove it to replace the straight pipe this past weekend. Upon inserting the new straight pipe into the new muffler, it only goes in part-way since there is a crease in the inlet to the muffler from tightening the clamp when I installed the muffler to the old straight pipe a month ago. Due to this, there is a slight exhaust leak at that connection (I can hear it when under the car), as well as condensation drips out from that spot when starting the car in the morning. This also causes the tailpipe to stick out from the bumper by about 1/2" (THAT is driving me crazy!).
How can I get that slight crease out of the muffler inlet and/or how do I get the straight pipe to go in further?
