The compressor and bracket, idler pulley and bracket, belt, receiver/drier, condenser, and evaporator surely weigh closer to 100 pounds combined.
When my compressor broke I was going to remove all the A/C components. I was without A/C for about 2 years because I was trying to decide if I should fix it or remove it. Finally I decided to fix it and even though it's not COLD AC, I'm glad I did.
Weak A/C is better than nothing when it's raining and the windows are up. It keeps you cool enough and prevents the windows from fogging up. Weak A/C keeps you cool enough that you don't always have to have the windows down. This is really a benefit when you're driving for long distances on the highway and you'd like to have some relief from the wind noise.
NO A/C is good because your engine bay seems less cluttered, the car is a little lighter, there's one less system to maintain, you can easily access your waterpump and timing chain tensioner, and your radiator will get more air flow without the condenser in the way.
