I'm not the right person to ask since if I would be faced with this problem, I would rip the engine out and seperate tranny/engine in less time than it would take to disassemble the pump unit and get the torque converter out.
Also, the pump unit is not suppose to be installed "backwards" like that so it is always a risk doing it that way since the pump pieces needs to be lined up and installed the "other" way.
But it is possible to snake the torque converter out by removing the front/rear/primary trans pan/cover, many pipes in there and the valve body and disassembly the oil pump from behind.
