If you go with the 5W30, for better shifting in the cold, then adding STP, which is thicker than cold molasses, would take you back the other way. My guess is you'd quickly end up draining everything out and refilling with something else.
Any other opinions?
As an aside I've never figured out what STP is supposed to do for an engine. Thicken the oil so it doesn't get up past worn out rings and burn/foul plugs? Not sure that's an idea that really works, since I've burned up more quarts of straight weight 40W than I care to remember, not to mention cans of STP, in an old oil burning Chevy.
Can't really hurt motors, I guess. Not so sure about trannys.
