If you have the one that looks like mine.... it's a silver tube with a blue plastic end cap. there is a nut on the bottom, take it off and slide the cap and cyliner off. I used a can of brake cleaner with the wand attatched... you most likely will see that the guts have a brown residue on them, spray away... There are also two single wires (solid) that run from the top to the bottom, if either end is not attached you will not get a signal. If all is ok you should be able to reassymbole and have at it. You may also be able to clean the old one this way too.
Lastly, there are two small holes on the cylinder near the top. I enlarged mine a little with an exacto knife, put the point in and turned around a few times with small pressure. this seems to make it read faster, not sure. do know that the wifes car works better and I don't get any complaints!
