Let wife drive 900 anymore? Is it dead?

The wife's 900 (86 900S) has been fairly good to her. She has put on a lot of miles in the last few months with the new job and such. I have told her a million times to not put food or drink anywhere near the center console or ignition switch area.
Well, last night she learned. She called me up telling me on the drive home that a bunch of warning lights were on in the dash, the heater blower wouldnt run and the turn signals wont work. I asked her if she had oil pressure, temp ok, brakes ok? She said yes, so I told her to drive it home. Well upon arrival, it smelled like someone was burning barber hair under the hood. Anyone wanna quess?
The ignition switch has so much goo (starbucks and muffin droppings) that she drove home with the starter engaged, about 15 miles. She had turned it to start it and it never went back to RUN position. hence all the other systems not working.
Did she mess up this car bigtime, or can I just replace the starter and clean out the switch????
Thanks for your sympathy,
Todd
