As another asked, how many miles? Timing chain may be ok depending upon miles so estimate may not need it.

Complete Gasket kit from eEuroparts.com (in the process of doing this now for my brother) is about $65. Includes intake, exhaust, head, valve stem seals (give them to the machinist), and valve cover gasket. valve cover pad about $6.

If head is ok and just needs resurface and pressure test then expect machine shop cost of $50-$150 depending upon local rates. We just spend $310 to fix a crack, resurface the head (turns out previous owner had very poor job done, needed a lot taken off this time - so also had to have the domes relieved a little to keep volume from getting too small...) and had the exhaust manifold resurfaced for good measure too. We spent about $150 over due to head condition.

chain tensioner is usually ok, get a washer for it (rubber center).

Hoses? Water Pump? Belts? Thermostat? Hoses? Generator mounts - stock or poly?

If you go whole hog, we did, you are looking at about $250 in parts (varies depending upon sources), plus machine shop on head (we didn't need any valves), plus all of the cleaning materials, antifreeze, oil and filter, tune up (plugs, air filter, cap, and rotor - wires ok?), plus disposable gloves! Gotta have the gloves!

I'm going to post pictures in my area after we done done, maybe this weekend.

btw - total cost to my brother will be about $600 - we want this to be the last job for another 100k miles. - asked the dealer for a swag, $1500 if no valves and no problems with the head.
