Well, I've never pulled one off that needed to be changed, even after 60K miles and they're supposed to be changed, what, every 30K miles.
Fuel filters don't wear out, however, and assuming the gas isn't contaminated chances are you can go several hundred thousand miles without replacement or until they're contaminated. On the other hand, they can be ruined/filled in 300 miles or less with a really bad batch of contaminated gasoline.
I'd say go ahead and try to replace it since you don't know when it was, if ever, done. But don't obsess over it if your car is running fine.
