Yes, you'll have to take the whole assembly out. I don't think it will come out with A/C compressor in. Once it's out you'll see rust in one of the bearings. The shaft is stainless and the frame is alluminum. So the rust actually comes from snap ring holding the shaft in place. You'll probably find that the snap ring is totaly gone and you'll need to get a replacement. Now you need to pull the shaft from the frame - this may be tough. Some persuasion and creativity may be needed. Once the shaft is out you need to clean the rust out really well, then lubricate with bearing grease and reassemble. Reinstall the unit and you won't believe how fast your wipers can move!
