John,

Don't us aluminum, use stainless steel as suggested. You will need to "Silver solder" Stainless steel nuts to the sheet metal in order to attach the hinges and latch pin.
Silver solder is a high temp "hard solder", it flows at about 1000 deg F, but it's the only
thing that will stick to stainless with adequate strength. Soft solder (lead/tin) won't stick, and adhesives are not strong enough.

FYI a 1/4-20 "Socket head" bolt is a perfect fit for the lower latch pin.

After you get tired of the rattling of the slats, silence them by running a small bead of
3M 5200 (marine store) along every seam, top and bottom. Let the 5200 cure for at least a week and finish the job by spraying both the louvers and the mounts with Satin finish "Trim Black" from and auto paint supplier. They will look great and not make ANY noise...
You will need to weather-proof the lower attachment with black Dum Dum or caulk.
DO NOT use 5200 to attach the mounts to the glass. 5200 is FOREVER.

Good luck with the project. I think louvers look great, and, they really do reduce the solar heating in the summer. My rig runs much cooler without the big greenhouse window.
