Re: AIC question - '86 900S NA auto Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: AIC question - '86 900S NA auto, Lars, Sun, 9 Apr 2006 13:40:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The LH 2.2 system use an AIC where the valve is held in place by feeding 12V to the center pin of AIC and then the fuel computer is sending more or less ground signal to either of the two outer pins. By doing that, the fuel computer allow the valve to open or close by "pulling" on either side using a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) ground signal.
It's likened as a tug-o-war between the two outer pins where the center pin is the constant 12V.
So it is no spring load in those older 3 pin AICs compared to the 2 pin AIC in the Volvo (and some Saabs from 88 and up).
Later up in the early 90s, Saabs with the LH 2.4.2 system started to use a 3 pin AIC again but that one have a spring inside to keep it a limp home open if need be.
