AIC question - '86 900S NA auto

I removed my AIC to clean it, and discovered that the little 'door', valve, or whatever it's called, moves back and forth easily, and stays in place wherever I move it. It's a Bosch AIC.
Now, on my wife's Volvo, when I remove the AIC and look it, the little 'door' is partly open, and when I shake the AIC back and forth, the door swings back and forth like it's on a 'spring' but always goes back to that spot.
The AIC on my Saab does not do this. I can move it with a screwdriver left and right, open and closed and it stays there.
Is it suppose to do that?
