I have done this twice this year. You do not need to remove the knee bolster, but it does help see and do the job for sure. You do need to remove the seat though.
When you remove the old one, just use a pair of plyers and break it out and then put in the new one, pretty straightforward. One thing to watch out for, though, if your sta-cons (the connectors on the ends of the wires that connects to the male jacks on the switch) are bad and you ahve to cut them off, but sure to replace them with fully insulated stakons, or put some electrical tape around one of them. I had to replace both on my car and I didn't tape them up, about 6 weeks later the lights were back on and I replace the switch again. What really happened was that the stakons vibrated togeter (they are very close) and shorted out which caused the brake lights to come back on. G
Good luck, if you have any further questions, be sure to post.
