Haven't faced this yet myself. But if the bench removal isn't going well and you don't have a set of torches, is it possible to knock the guts out, down the inside of the sensor, then get a saber saw blade or ground-narrower Sawzall blade down inside, and cut it out thru to the threads? One cut should loosen it up, two maybe even better, then unscrewing it should be possible. Or three, and knock the pieces inwards and pick it out. Even if you cut out just into the threads of the bung, a narrow slit or two or three in them isn't going to stop a new sensor from sealing tight.
Course you'd still have to get the pieces of the old one out so they didn't foul the cat.
Saving the best for last, a muffler shop might just do the removal of the old one for you, easy and for cheap. They face these things all day every day and some of them are willing to tackle small stuff.
