Re: difference between front Motor Mounts? Posted by Saana88 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: difference between front Motor Mounts?, Zaab ![]() |
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think turbos got front hydraulic mounts. On my 8 valves (non-turbos, all) all three are rubber. On my 16 valvers the rears are hydraulic and the front (transmission) mount is rubber.
One may not necessarily be better than the other unless you're dropping a lot of oil out of the front of your transmission (cured by a five dollar seal and five minutes) which may degrade the rubber, or if you're putting ridiculous amounts of torque suddenly out the driveshafts, which has a habit of breaking things, front mounts included.
I also believe you'll need a different fitting for the front of your gearbox if you want to change mount types. I change the front mount every 100k or so, and mine are rubber. If you want to check it, take the hood off (two bolts and a friend), put the car in first gear with the parking brake and service brakes firmly applied, and release the clutch at varying degrees of speed and see if the motor rocks fore and aft.
