I don't think that either one of those is related to what's happening. If the tach bounces like that, it's more likely an issue with the hall effect sensor. The ignition module might be a suspect, too, but that's something to investigate after you check some other things.
And, of course, make sure that the spark plugs are the proper NGKs (gapped to 0.24"), the wires are Bougicords or Magnacores, and the cap and rotor are Bosch.
One thing you might want check is the hall effect connector on the side of the distributor. Bets are, with a car of that age, that the connector mounting plastic has deteriorated from the heat of the turbo directly below it and it's loose. When it bounces from something like the front of the engine rising or the hall effect cable swinging when you accelerate, the wires inside the connector lose contact and you get the tach bounce that you describe.
The same sort of thing happened with my '88 SPG. I secured the connector to the distributor with nylon wire ties and the "cough" on acceleration never happened again.
