A few years ago, my local transmission had rebuilt the T-37 auto tranny. After discoupling engine/tranny, the engine sat nicely on an empty 55 gallon drum, while the tranny was rebuilt. These drums are easy to get, some folks use em for burning yard brush en such. While the tranny was being rebuilt, at that point in time, you can do some internal/external engine work. New motor mounts, alternator, belts, etc. Since this was my first experience with a Saab, 89 900s; bought car 1 week prior to this rebuild for $500. I only wished I knew about this site before rebuild, as to convert it to a manual. It took the shop 3 months for this project, during which time I found this site, and mentioned the manual conversion. The cost with labor for auto rebuild was $3000...to convert to manual would've been $4000. That's been 5 years ago...150,000 miles. Contrary to the T-37 bad-mouthing you see here on the board, with proper care this tranny has/is holding up well. During one year, 2003, summer (hot) I might add, she went round trip from NC to NY...3 times within 4 months! Jak, if your reading this, The AAmco shop in Asheville had done the work.
