Ok, so here's my story. I discovered I had a base boost issue last night on my 89 900T. Thinking I would start with what seems to be a common test, I disconnected the W hose from the solenoid and cautiously took it out for a spin. I still had base boost, and then on the drive back toward my house, I discovered that now my boost was reading 0 both on the stock gauge and on my autometer. Just for the hell of it, I decided to put the hose back on and go for another drive, thinking I would be back to where i had started - back to just base boost, right?
WRONG. As soon as i got on the gas, the car stuttered, made a rather loud and scary rattling/clattering noise for a few seconds, and stalled out. I couldn't get her to restart - she would turn over and catch, but die right away. Now, after reading some other posts, I feel a little better about the possible outcome, but i was wondering if anyone had a feel for what i've done to my poor car. I take very good care of it (well, outside of exploring the high end of the boost gauge from time to time), although my (original, 231k miles) turbo's been screaming its lungs off for a few years now - did it finally let go and come apart? The sounds I heard were very unpleasant, and as it was the dead of night, I decided to get it towed into my mechanic's and let him deal with my potentially stupid mistake after the holiday weekend's over. Any ideas what I did? Did i do anything, or was it coincidence?
Sorry this was a novel, ive just not quite come to terms with potentially losing my baby yet!
