Push right in the center of that mushroom cap, straight in towards the mirror. The center of the domed black thing should depress. Keep pushing till it falls out on the inside. (Maybe 1/2" or so.)
What you have is a hollow tube, with a mushroom-shaped crown on it, like a mushroom that somebody "cored." Then its dead center is filled solid with a "pin" or rod of the same colored plastic, that keeps the tube part spread out and locking into place in the door sheet metal, holding the trim plate. Push the center part down inside, and the tube part then may flex inward and permit the trim plate to come off.
Repeat: PUSH HARD, STRAIGHT IN. Just try it a little ways and report back.
