switch questions.... Posted by nuysSAAB [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Today, I had my AC on 'cause it's HOT & HUMID here ... when I got on the freeway, I had to go to full throttle ( partly because of inconsiderate drivers and partly 'cause it's simply fun to stretch the turbo muscle) and the AC didn't cut off which gave me an unexpected weak top end.
My car: '86 SPG. My question: Is the switch controlling AC shut off at full throttle a microswitch or is it controlled by the throttle position sensor? There is one microswitch with a roller contact mounted under the throttle house but I've always thought of that switch as part of the upshift light circuit. Bentley doesn't seem to cover the AC shut off switch very well and from wiring diagrams, it looks like '85 models had a throttle house microswitch for the AC but not from '86 on - in the '86 diagram, it looks like the TPS is used somehow. Anyone know for certain?
I guess I could manually switch off the AC when entering a freeway, but it's always nice if things work the way they're supposed to.
