clutch diagnosis needed

Having a clutch problem with my '90 900S. Perhaps someone can diagnose this or propose some theories:
-Sometimes gets stuck in gear. Clutch has to be released then pushed down again to get it out of gear. In other words, you cannot keep your foot down on the clutch and shift it into and out of gear.
-Pedal feels loose and jerky, not smooth.
-Sometimes lurches violently in 1st or reverse, even when I don't give it gas. Makes me feel like I am 15 again and learning to drive stick.
-Very tricky to not stall it when starting from a stop.
-Often very difficult to shift into reverse, lots of grinding, no matter how far the clutch pedal is pushed.
Does not seem to be leaking brake fluid. Transmission mechanic suggested the problem is hydraulic. I tried bleeding the clutch to no success...the problem remains. I've had the car 6 years, and have noticed the problem over the last couple months.
A few other notable facts about the vehicle, probably unrelated:
-car starts hard, especially when engine is hot
-doesn't idle well
-gas smell in cabin, and under hood, particularly strong after i fill the tank
-pretty major oil leak around crank pulley
Any ideas or advice are welcome.
Thanks for your time.
