It can be replaced without evacuation, but what's the problem with the one in place? Is it slipping? If so, then it is possible to clean the contact surfaces to remove the oils that are causing the problem. It's basically a metal to metal clutch and if oils accumulate then a film of dirt and oil can build between the two, causing it to slip when engaged. To clean you use lots of spray solvent, and paper shop towels to absorb the mess. When the surfaces are wet, slide a folded shop towel between the space to clean. Do that several times until evidence of dirt and oil is gone. If you really do need to replace it, then it's a matter of being able to fold the compressor up in a way to expose the clutch and remove the bolt, then use a gear puller to remove the clutch. It requires a special bracket to attach the puller.
