Luck putting older thin lipped dash in newer ('92) 900

Anyone ever have luck putting an older dash which has the thinner topline into a "newer" 900.
I just received my uncracked dash that I procured off of ebay. Prior to purchase I emailed the seller to ask what year the car was the dash came out of. He told me a '92. Great...it's going into a '92.
Opened it up yesterday to find it is one of the older dashes with the thin topline.
I tried to put one of these in my '94 vert a few years ago and did not have luck with the fit.
Anyone have any luck with this and if so please share the technique.
Thanks in advance!
Todd
