KYB's are good for a year or maybe 20K...they often fail soft on compression and allow the suspension to bottom out...bang when you hit a bump that shouldn't.
I've tried bilsteins, kybs, etc, and finally settled on konis.
Yes, 400 for all four corners was about the best price I could find...if you do front shocks only they're about $100 apiece. Your garage will probably charge you about $160 each for them and half an hour each to put in. They really take about 10 minutes with an impact wrench. Do NOT let them use an impact wrench on the lower shock stud....and torque it just until the bushing compresses...using an impact wrench on the bottom stud will strip it.
Look at the lower stud carefully...if it's stripped at the bottom of the threads you can often use a couple flat washers and a locking washer to shim out the nut to good threads. Otherwise it's a new lower suspension arm. And have the shop LOOK at the suspension arms for cracks....if they don't know how, find another shop that knows about saabs.
