I wonder if the positive cable going to the starter is grounding out? it starts by the battery, goes across the transmission (near the radiator) and then under the intake and onto the starter. It has two, or maybe three, insulated clamps to hold it in place. Saab has a known insulation that is "biodegradable" meaning it sloughs off the wire as it gets older. I just changed two cables as described because bare wire was showing. Also, there is a cable that daisy chains *from* the starter positive to the alternator. This is the path back to the battery for charging it and is *very* important...
Curious, is it a SAAB dealer or a SAAB indy? Suggest that they look very closely at the hot cables involved...
Also, another mentioned that the key may be sticking in the start position. Get them to disconnect the battery and you sit in the car and go through the start drill, make sure the key "springs back" under it's own to the run position. also, it should turn easily from lock to run to start. if it does not do any of this correctly get some (the mechs may have it there...) electrical or electronics cleaner. it's in a spray can, similar to WD-40. We used to use Freeon-TF to do this in another world but it's now banned. Spray the cleaner into the key slot in the console, they do the key start drill *battery still disconnected* until it gets good and free, springy, and happy. Repeat a couple of times if needed. Don't spill any more coffee or sodas there anymore. This is to make sure it's never stuck in the start position.
over.
