That would lead to burnt up cable, burnt clamps, flat dead battery, possibly a fire under hood and loss of car. Would be awful hard to diagnose that as needing a starter, over and over, and repeatedly replace same. And yet miss the cable. Then again, there are shops, and there are shops.
My money also is on a sticking starter switch. How's your hearing? If that's what's going on, you should hear the starter staying engaged in the flywheel as the engine kicks in and over-runs it. Wiggle key quickly counter-clockwise to free it. Then get a new switch asap.
I had a Nissan that did this. (Spring in keyswitch broke.) My half-deaf mom was driving it. It whirled the starter armature so fast, the centrifugal force spun the tightly wound, bound and varnish coated copper windings outwards and they began striking on the field coils and the case, then arced and burnt through.
