I use a local independant tech when a repair is physically challanging (needing a lift, or pulling the springs, etc) but basically, the Saab is a well designed machine (aside from the engine being installed backwards) and easy to work on for the most part.
The C900 is designed as a series of sub-systems that in and of themselves are understandable and repairable. The available documentation and website support (not to mention this BB) are invaluable and will help ease any repair anxiety.
Go for it. As long as you're buying a well maintained car, get a good set of metric tools, and stay on top of repairs, you should have no problem. Besides, if after a year you don't feel better about it, resell it. there are always folks here looking to expand their collections! Good Luck!
