900 Turbo Distributor Rebuild Kit / Ignition Questions

I have an 86 900 Turbo which has the Bosch Hall effect unit in the distributor.
Question 1:
Is the Hall effect unit the same for all years where Saab put it in the distributor?
The rebuild kit I ordered came with the wrong size sheet metal part (The bore was too large) to fit on my distributor shaft so I reused the old one.
This is the sheet metal part with the 4 cutouts that rotates between the Hall effect unit walls. I'm worried that the Hall effect unit maybe the wrong one for my car because the car runs worse than it did before I replaced the Hall effect unit.
Question 2:
My distributor shaft appears to be keyed where it engages the camshaft. Is this so the distributor can only be installed one way and not be out 180 degrees?
Question 3:
What is the sign of a bad ignition unit?
Question 4:
What is the sign of a bad coil?
Before I replaced the Hall effect unit when I started the car it would run okay and then very quickly start to miss. The miss would then progressively get worse until the car would stall. It would then refuse to start. After a long cool down the car would start again and do the same thing.
