Robert Bentley Manual "Saab 900 16 Valve". ISBN 0-8376-0313-7. Average about $25-$40, from a Sponsor of this Bulletin Board (BB), or perhaps eBay, or a local book merchant. Excellent for a DIY (Do It Yourself) person.

Sounds like your analysis on the electrical connections is right, but you must also have a Turbo-Boost Vacuum connection, to the back of the Boost Gage (usually a grayish-black hose about 1/4" outside diameter (OD).

Now - All the connections should be accessible through the left front speaker panel (on top of dash, 2 tiny torx screws). There is no need to remove dash or instrument panel, I don't think! You really should get a Bentley Manual! The Speedometer Cable white plastic connector should simple slip onto the speedo connection at the rear of the gage. there is a squeeze-latch tab, and that's about it - except the plastic connector is very often broken. Hmmmmm!

I think the broken flange/tab in the shifter area may require the replacement of the Gearshift Lever Assembly, if I understand your question correctly. If it does, you could try a junk yard, for a used assembly. Maybe get a Bentley, and refer to Section 432, for better analysis?

Sounds like a good buy, for the $$$$, and repairs are not too bad! Junk yards available? Or parts in the Classified section of this BB? Or parts from BB Sponsors? Sounds like you can probably repair most problems, with a Bentley, and there is LOTS of info on this BB. By the way, the "Search" function here works very well, also.
