Having done this a few times I believe it also makes it less likely to ding the hood. Being up on top of the car and out of the way.

These two are closer together in this shot because I jacked up on side to get to the left front wheel, my son watched and game me the signal to stop.

Like I said before, it's a five minute task, and saves so much more time, your back, and running around the hood. But you can do it anyway you want. I was just answering the guy asking for an easier way to do it, and this is.

PS - Back in the day when the shops were full of 900's, you'd see hoods on top of cars abunch...
