Air bag removal Posted by Jon [Email] (#11) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Jon) on Fri, 8 Sep 2006 16:32:35 In Reply to: REALLY? A Job for the Shop, largelylivin, Fri, 8 Sep 2006 16:32:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
largelylivin,
I remove the key from the ignition, that is it. I then loosen the two screws holding the airbag to the steering wheel. Pull the airbag away from the steering wheel and then unplug the wire connectors. Set the airbag on the back seat. Center the steering wheel and then loosen the nut securing the steering wheel, pull the wheel towards you until it comes loose, then remove the nut and pull off the steering wheel. Remove the clock spring, but don't allow it to spin. You don't want it to become tighter wound or looser because it will break if not properly reinstalled. At this point you can determine if you want to replace the worn parts or replace the whole assembly with a good used one.
Photo below shows everything removed for access.
Good luck,
Jon
