Your tranny has about 2.5 quarts of fluid in it. It sounds like the bottom of your transmission looks like the Exxon Valdez. However, you're only halfway between the marks on your dipstick.
I don't see how you could leak that much fluid and only be between the marks on your dipstick.
Have you checked levels in the brake MC, the engine oil, and engine coolant?
