I definitely believe it's MTF - as you said, it's pretty easy to tell the difference between it and engine oil. I was simply suggesting that the two are compatible, and neither should have any different effect on a gasket than the other... It's not the same as putting in Redline or other lubes...
There are four gaskets in the c900 transmission - the rear cover, the side cover, the 5th gear cover, and the front/primary cover. Can you tell which one it's leaking from? I've had that front cover go bad once or twice, and airflow spread the resultant leak all down the side of the transmission. Both times that gasket went bad from a poorly tightened bolt (or one that backed out...) or an over tightened bolt. Replacing it isn't too hard, but isn't much fun, either.
What year is the transmission? Is it possible that the dipstick bolt or clip or o-ring has failed or was put back in wrong? My '86 900S had a badly fitted dipstick (old-style transmission) and I was shocked at how quickly it could lose a quart of oil from such a little hole...
I don't image there is much you could do to that gearbox that would be worse than 8000rpm from an Integra or 270hp from a TL... I think the fluid is more than up to the challenge... it's certainly better than motor oil!
