Re: '87 900T starts but won't keep running, dies -- long Posted by scott47 [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: '87 900T starts but won't keep running, dies -- long, scott47 ![]() |
This is posted for future Saab-lovers with a similar problem:
I tested the rotor, it was fine but I replaced it anyway
I examined the distributor cap, it was fine but I replaced it anyway
I replaced the plugs, since I fouled all of them out by running (flooding) the motor with the accelerator floored
I also completed all of the tests mentioned in my original posting
Result: the car still wouldn't run....
After using the advice given to me by a number of saabnet.com users and my dad, I unplugged the air mass meter. #2 (aka my '87T) fired right up and while she doesn't run great without the AMM at least she runs.
If you have problems similar to mine, I recommend unplugging the AMM before trying all of the tests that I did. :-)
Thanks to everyone that responded to my question and special thanks to Scott for hosting this site.
Scott
BTW If anyone has or knows where to find a reasonably priced AMM, please let me know.
BBTW I discovered that my valve cover gasket is leaking and need to replace it. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced gasket that is comparable to an OEM gasket, please let me know.
Thanks again,
Scott
