Given that I didn't know what rust there was, I needed to disassemble it anyway. And good thing too. I had to have S&S weld in some floor material on the passenger side...
Anyway, even with prep, paint on the 'vert ran $3500. Not for the faint of heart. If you plan on restoring it, don't expect EVER to recoupe what you put into it. For us, we plan on keeping this car a LONG time, and the payback is in the enjoyment of the ride and in owning what is quickly becoming rare cars. Classic 900's aren't as common as they used to be. People run the crap out of them, then throw them away.
BTW, we did the very same thing, and at a slightly less cost, last year with my '93 Commemorative (same paint cost, but other areas didn't need nearly as much work).
The two money pits are done. No more major car projects for a LONG time.
