Dave,
The hub, and thus the wheel, are splined to the axle assembly. The Right axle should always spin when the Right wheel is turned. The Left axle must spin when the Left wheel is turned. These cars don't have limited slip differentials (wouldn't matter anyway). With one wheel off the ground and the car in neutral, that wheel, AND ITS' AXLE (and the ring gear and pinion shaft in the transaxle), should spin freely. With the car in gear and both wheels off the ground, turning one wheel forward should spin the other backward (the pinion shaft doesn't turn). If you are spinning a wheel and the axle shaft (on that side of the car) isn't turning then you have a serious problem. However, if that is the case then you wouldn't be able to drive the car. It would be like it's stuck in neutral because all the torque would be wasted spinning an axle that's not connected (splined) to a wheel. That does sometimes happen to C900s but they arrive at the shop on a hook. Cheers.
