To do this you remove the grill - - 3 torx screws at top edge, maybe fewer if any of the tabs are broken off. Then there are two 10mm-headed bolts up from below the radiator cross member that go into the square made-on nuts on the latch plate. Loosen them a little and the latch mechanism can float around a bit. Pop the hood up and make sure the cone-shaped tip of the hood latch pin is landing right in the center of the hole, then tighten those bolts. Also try lubing the cone with a little grease, and the rods that open around it and close back behind it, down in the latch mechanism, with grease or a little oil. And the internal workings of the latch plate, with a little oil if you can work it in.
It's hard to imagine that a Saab hood wouldn't go back exactly to where it is supposed to be - - there's no adjustment and it fits back exactly in place. Maybe the tip of its latch pin got wiped clean of all lube while it was out, or gobbed up with mud.
And I'm dubious about that "flattening the piece that houses the hood ejection cable" bit - - sounds like just smashing something without understanding it. That piece is the hood latching mechanism. Lube and adjust it, is how to deal with a badly opening hood.
It was getting lifted up by the hood? Not sure I follow. They can come apart internally but usually bolting it down holds the two halves together. If it's bad, visit a junkyard or ask your indy if they have another off a wreck they could put in for you. Or buy one from a site sponsor.
