At the very least, Kelly would be informed when visiting a mechanic, having some defense of getting ripped off.
Kelly,
The crankshaft pulley, is actually two metal pulleyss with a rubber(harmonic balancer)sandwhich bewteen them. The harmonic balancer absorbs forces.
When the car pulley becomes worn.( the rubber becoming soft) a squeeling occurs.. This happens mostly when the car starts up from sitting. Or even a load. As the crankshaft pulley becomes hot, there is less of a squeal.
Unless you have the Saab tool ( a long tapered wrench countoured to the shape of the bulk head) it is pain in the rear. You can get it off with a long breaker bar, and cutting a socket in half. The clearance is quite tight.
LEt us know if you have any questions; we will be glad to answer
