When door is OPENED, button out, wire goes thru switch to ground, light comes on. Door closed, switch opens, wire stops going to ground, light goes out. Or, if you have the time delay, light takes its time but eventually goes out.
If your light is ON all the time, one of the wires is shorting to ground somewhere.
