Good tranny?..? What are the chances..? Posted by JLitten007 [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I've found an 1991 900S 5 speed in the locale bone yard. pretty good shape. 140K.
I need a tranny for my 1990 SPG.
They will pull this tranny for me for $350.
Not having any history on the car I found some paper work with PO name and tried to contact him but haven't had any luck with that. looking for his reason for dumping the car.
Yesterday as I was out getting a few parts from it, I talked one of the guys into trying to jump it to see if it started.
Started right up. Although it had some idle issues.
I then convinced the mechanic to try and drive it. he did but only got into first and second gear as didn't have room for any speed for 3rd 4th and 5th.
But he said it felt like it shifted into all those gears fine at the shifter.
My Questions..
would a non-saab mechanic be able to tell if the tranny was good by looking at it after he breaks it from the engine?
Would a Saab indy be able to tell just by looking at it?
"I would think so"
I'm thinking because its a NA engine the tranny has a better chance of being in better shape then on a turbo.
I know I'd need to alter the 900S tranny to join into the 90 SPG.
But it is possible? Right?
Any input would help me a great deal.
Thanks
