Two things, 1)It's a fair amount of work putting in a C900 tranny. You don't want to gamble that much labor on an unknown gearbox. 2)If that gearbox has 140,000 miles on it then it's about 75-90% of the way through the life expectancy of it's pinion bearings and a few other parts (1-2 fork...). These units (even with one larger pinion bearing, '89 on) tend to need rebuilding at around 150,000 miles. The tranny has to be performing under load, at speed in order to percieve worn out bearings and such. All you'll find in a static condition, without disassembly, is evidence of grossly broken (beyond worn) internals. I've seen bearings so worn that it hurt to look at them, but they gave no sign except a faint noise at speed, under load. There are only 2 gearboxes that are worth putting in a nice C900 (my opinion); A freshly rebuilt unit or a low mileage unit that you can test drive before you buy it (and it's slick). Good luck.
