Quite honestly, the SAAB interiors are a bit of a weak point and were clearly not built for the long term. In my experience, BMW or even VW interiors of a similar vintage will be in superior shape and demonstrate a more sophisticated design. Look closely and you will see that the SAAB interiors are full of unfinished edges, visible screw heads, loose assembly tolerances, clumsy material transitions, and mid-grade materials and finishes.
That said, the advantage to all this interior mediocrity (at least for the DIY'er) is that the interiors are very easy to take apart and reassemble. Parts go in and out with a couple of screws and require a almost no delicate specialty fasteners (except perhaps for those long screws that hold the dash together). You can pretty much get the whole car interior apart and back together with just the tools in the trunk toolkit.
