I need some advice, please. My husband wants to give up on our 92 turbo conv.(actually, the turbo has been MIA for several years), because she did not pass inspection and she’ll need multiple repairs; catalytic converter, brake calipers, brake line, and some exhaust stuff. There are corrosion/rust areas that have eaten through the metal. Most of the interior electrical things don’t work anymore. I tried replacing fuses, but guess that’s not what she needed. OK, she has problems, but who doesn’t? She is the best car ever, but maybe she is getting too sick and run down; and after 280,00 miles, who can blame her? The thing is, we’re so broke that keeping her going makes more sense to me. We could at least put half or most of the repair costs on a credit card and pay it off over time. I say find a local shop willing to do the work with used parts. But we’re fairly new to the Ithaca area and don’t know any reliable places offhand that would do this. I’d even try to sand/patch/paint the rust spots, and try to fix the electrical/wiring stuff, if I knew how; are there good do-it-yourself guides for this sort of stuff online? I want to keep her alive. Is this stupid? Thanks in advance for your help.
