I replaced my 90 SPG's ABS accumulator w/ the GM part 25528372 per Goldberger and others advice here. This board rocks, seriously, DO NOT pay for the saab part, it's a complete waste of 200 bucks additional expense. I am an OEM stickler too. This part is for the ATE system of a Buick Reatta and comes with the rubber o ring included. Perfect physical fit/replacement. It's a very very slight difference in shape, has a yellow warning sticker and another one that says MADE IN GERMANY. Looks bone stock. I ordered it not from GMPARTSDIRECT, but from http://www.partszoneonline for 113.88 plus 11 shipping. Got it in 2 days.
I know I searched a great deal before putting a new ABS accumulator and didn't ever encounter symptoms EXACTLY like mine, so for future searches, thought I'd recap the whole deal. I suspected relays, pumps, pressure switches, harnesses, ECUs, all kinds of stuff and had visions of $1500 repairs. My problem was intermittent, which was causing me to not look at the accumulator as the root cause, even though I knew it was probably sub-par.
SYMPTOMS:
1) Two Hot days in traffic at end of summer, both Yellow Antilock and Red Brake Fluid lights came on. Brakes fine tho. After driving on highway, lights went out. This was my first sign that something was amiss a few months back.
2) Upon starting car, Yellow Antilock light and Red Brake FLuid light would be on for about 45 seconds as system pressurized.
3) On first cold day this fall, the Yellow Antilock light remained lit. Brakes normal for about 5 miles. Then brakes literally "went out" -- ie I had no brake boost whatsoever. Luckily I was in a safe place and almost coasted through a red light with no one around.
4) Then brakes were fine for a few weeks. No warning lights while driving, perfect brakes.
5) The yellow Antilock light thing followed by brake pressure loss became more and more common. But completely erratic. Sometimes the brake fluid light was on in addition to the antilock light, sometimes it wasn't. Couldn't replicate if I tried. Sometimes I'd go a week w/ no symptoms, sometimes the car couldn't be driven. I tapped relays with screwdrivers, did all the checks, etc.
I replaced the accumulator -- all is perfect now. Yellow and Red lights go out approx 5 seconds after starting the car. I get 16 pumps on the brake before lights come on (!!!).
Hope it helps.
