Steve,
Unfortunately finding small leaks of long duration ususally means cleaning the unit up and then waiting to see where the leak is. You've found the tranny dipstick OK. Both tranny and engine oil leaks can hose down your engine and tranny a lot. Power steering fluid leaks are very common and can make a real mess. How's the fill level in that reservoir? Let's hope your not seeing a brake fluid leak. Easy to fix but dangerous to drive with. Saab always recommended 10w30 motor oil for the C900 5 speed transmission. Notwithstanding that it is a transaxle, 80-90 weight gear oil is not recommended. Not sure what 700 weight gear oil is, maybe it was 70 weight, like motorcycle fork oil? In this board's archives you'll find a mountain of opinions on which is the right oil for these trannys. I've opened up a lot of these units that were running on 10w30 and had beautiful gears with little evident wear (worn bearings) so that's what I stick with. Redline MTL seems to be a good alternative if you must. If there is a split in an inner driver boot it will fling grease inside the engine compartment in a ring aligned with the split. Good luck.
